Description
This small beach is characterized by golden coarse sand which has a limpid and crystalline sea with shallow water and sandy sea-bottom mixed with pebbles. This is the nearest beach to the town and because of it is overcrowded. Cala Gonone is an important touristic locality. From its well equipped port ferry boats leave for the surreal Grotte del Bue Marino (Marine Ox Caves) in Cala Luna and permit to discover the Supramonte coast which consists in incredible stacks (isolated crags in the sea) and white granitic walls that drop straight down to the sea. Thanks to the ferry boat service you can also visit the Cala Sisine, Cala Biriola, Cala Mariolu and Cala Goritzè famous beaches, further south. Behind Cala Gonone the famous Poltrona rises, a granitic rock wall equipped for free climbing. In fact the whole area is appreciated by free climbers and excursion enthusiasts from all Europe.
