It can be reached by ferry boats which leave from Cala Gonone, Santa Maria Navarrese, Arbatax port otherwise with one’s own boat or rented craft. There’s also a hiking path for experts. We recommend to ask the help of the local guides because of the difficult passages.
Description
Standing to what everybody says it is one of the most enchanting beaches of the Mediterranean sea. The sand is mixed with very small white and pink pebbles. The characteristic big rocks on the shore divide the beach in two parts. Cala Mariolu, as the other coves of this stretch of coast, has an incomparable sea, is incredibly crystalline and limpid, the water is high and the sea-bottom is mixed in content, it is very interesting for snorkelling enthusiasts. The name Mariolu comes from the old name that the fishermen from Ponza gave to the Monk seal for its tendency to rob fish from the nets. It is also called Ispuligi de nie, which in Sardinian means “snow flees”, for its white characteristic grains. Excavated from nature, in the limestone rock walls that encircle the beach there’s a beautiful cave where you will find a shelter from the sun during the hottest hours of the day.
