Itineray
From Gonnesa take the SS 126 in the direction of Iglesias. After about 500 metres you will reach the junction to Nebida and Masua. Turn left onto the SP 83, and after about 3 km you will reach the turning to the well signalled car park of Fontanamare.
Description
The beach of Fontanamare is made up of middle-grained golden sand. The crystal clear sea of a light blue colour is rather shallow and the seabed is sandy. Bordered on the northern side by the ruins of a nineteenth-century mining port, it forms the northern extremity of the gulf of Gonnesa. The landscape is characterized by the incredible stretch of coastline that rapidly changes its features. From the beach it is possible to admire the wonderful vertical cliffs and the small islands that characterize the coast in the northern part. Among them there is the well-known Pan di Zucchero, an outcrop of white limestone, about 133 metres high, standing in the middle of the sea of Masua.
