Description
It opened to the public in 2003 and is considered one of the most beautiful and important caves of Sardinia. The part of the cave that is explored is of 1800 metres but in some areas they are still exploring. The cave has an important value for its geological feature and its fauna. In fact inside it Padre Furreddu, one of the founders of speleology on the island, studied for the first time the Monk Seal, living night and day in close touch with the mammal. Thanks to his scientific studies it was possible to reveal many mysteries about this ancient inhabitant of the Mediterranean sea. The mouth of the cave is 10 metres above the sea level and is possible to visit it thanks to cat walks that allow to walk in all security along the fossilized ancient river bed.
The guided tours are organized by the Baunese Speleological Society of Baunei.
