Description
The Grotte del Bue Marino (Sea Ox Caves) owe their name to the Monk seal Sardinian name, a marine mammal considered disappeared from the area in the 80s. The caves are more or less 20 km long. After the spectacular entrance the cave splits in two stumps, the south one and the north one. After the recent speleological discoveries another branch was added and called the “middle” branch because it was discovered between the two already known. The visitable branch, thanks to a km long path, is the southern one, where carsick activity is still present. Along the way you can admire the salted and fresh water lakes, the stalactites and stalagmites, and the small sandy beaches where the Monk seal used to reproduce. Near the entrance you can also admire the prehistoric graffiti remains which testimony the cave’s frequentation from the Neolithic age.
