Description
The island of Mal di Ventre is uninhabitated, and is located to the south-west of the promontory of Capo Mannu. In Sardinian it is called ‘Isula de Maluentu’, which means ‘Island of the bad wind’. This name derives from the fact that the whole area is often exposed to a strong mistral wind, which has somehow shaped the landscape. It is part of the Marine Protected Area of Sinis which is managed by the municipality of Cabras and encompasses the island of Mal di Ventre, the rock Il Catalano and the Sinis Peninsula. Mal di Ventre is a small island of porphyritic granite, where mainly grow small Mediterranean maquis shrubs. In addition to it, the island boasts a number of small beaches of incredible beauty, and it is home to various animal species, among which wild rabbits, different bird species and turtles. It is a paradise for those who appreciate wild and uncontaminated nature.
