The Ogliastra Islet can be reached by sea with one’s own boat or rental craft otherwise with ferry boats that conduct guided tours along the whole coast, from the Arbatax and Santa Maria Navarrese port which are nearby.
Description
Ogliastra Islet is in front of Lotzorai beach and is a wonderful reddish granitic mass 47 metres high. In the many small coves of the islet there are rocks modelled in various forms by nature. On the highest part of the island there’s the Madonna dell’Ogliastra statue made by Pinuccio Sciola, a Sardinian sculptor. The islet’s hinterland is covered with a rich vegetation full of oleasters, Indian figs (prickly pears) and Mediterranean maquis. It hosts also interesting animal species as royal seagulls and cormorants. The sea is deep azure, the sea-bottom is rocky and the water is full of life and colours. Because of it this islet is an ideal destination for snorkelling and diving enthusiasts.
