Description
Stintino is a town of about 1.600 residents, in the homonymous peninsula, which it stretches out to the Isola dell’Asinara, nearby, and it ends with Capo Falcone. This peninsula is the north- western edge of Sardinia. It is a cheery town with typical architecture, characterized by small streets that bend between the colourful houses around the small port. It bases its economy on fishing and on the growing tourism due to the beaches of this area which are extraordinarily beautiful. The burg’s origin is due to the decision, that the Italian Government took in 1885, of creating on the Isola dell’Asinara a sanitary lazaretto in Cala Reale and a penal colony in Cala d’Oliva, by sending away the inhabitants of the island whom transferred to the Stintino peninsula originating the homonymous centre.
