Quirra’s trekking

Mount Cudias is a mountainous relief in the shape of an upturned cone, the top of which is at 296 meters above sea level.

Found in the territory of the municipality of Villaputzu, at the very peak stand the ruins of the manor of Quirra that dominates the surrounding valleys with its profound rifts in the rocky terrain and breathtaking panorama. An imposing cliff runs from the South-West to the North-East, showing its calcareous reds, a fixed destination for famous climbers like Maurizio Zanolla (Manolo) and Silvio Mondinelli (Gnaro).

The loop itinerary that I recommend to expert adventurers is 8 kilometers long, begining at the church of San Nicola, probably built in the second half of the 12th or at the beginning of the 13th century, requires full focus, serious equipment (trekking shoes, complete backpack with personal accessories and water flask) as well as great enthusiasm that will be, nevertheless, fully rewarded.

Once you leave the church behind you, you will have to follow the bed of a stream and face a rocky climb up to the entrance of the cave of “Giannicu Mele”. Between the fields of asphodel and wild olive trees you will be able to visit Su Presoni in the area of Cirreddi, tombs from Roman times, located at the foot of a rocky cliff, close to Rio Quirra and the medieval village.

Once you get to the church of Santa Maria Su Claru and the nuraghe tower nearby, following your guide closely, you will reach the peak of the mountain and face the ruins of the manor.
