The Prof. Cannas Textile Laboratory was born in Aggius, a small town in Gallura, thanks to Giovanni Cannas, who by his own will instituted the weaving school in the town, making the premises and looms available to the students after his death. The Cooperative was established in 1997 and today sees three talented artisans, Tomasina, Stefania and Giovanna, who create unique products such as carpets, tapestries, saddlebags, cushions and bags all by hands.
The designs and techniques are based on the tradition and the colours of their native village, the work called “all’antiga” takes place on traditional looms, using wool or cotton dyed with vegetable colours obtained from flowers, barks, roots and leaves.
This work has as its subject designs that recall nature, such as flowers, peacocks and lapwings or geometric shapes typical of Sardinian weaving. The drawings are characterized by figures that make up the “Data” (a large drawing called this way because of the time it takes to make it, a whole day) and “Su Pommu” (a smaller drawing between a “Date” and the other).
The professionalism and the manual skills with which these three weaving artists realize their works are the ingredients that have conquered us since the first meeting, we want for this, to share with you this beautiful craftsmanship.
We invite you to get to know this refined craftsman through his creations.
